Aronui continuously nurture the passion for learning to meet the needs of various stakeholders by providing excellent students with the knowledge to acquire skills equal in an ever changing and dynamic industry.

Aronui Technical Training Centre (Aronui) was established in 1979 and has been operating for over 25 years. It has grown significantly throughout the North Island and it was registered and acredited by New Zealand Zealand Qualifications Authority in 1993.
In 1979, Aronui was initially set-up as a voluntary (non-funded) education provider to serve the needs of the local communities in South Auckland, in particular the services were targeted at ‘at risk’ youth who had fallen through the gaps in the state school system. Within 12 months of its establishment, it became government-funded in recognition of the needs the programmes were meeting for Maori and other ethnicities. These voluntary programmes evolved into mainstream foundation/bridging programmes in trade industries - carpentry, motor mechanics, cookery, horticulture, agriculture, marine farming etc. However, the Maori Arts and Crafts programmes remained in its repertoire.
Although, these mainstream programmes were aligned with the national industry standards, tikanga Maori continued to be integrated throughout all aspects of delivery. Delivery techniques were focused on a 70% hands-on policy to reflect the learning needs of the students.
In 1990, Aronui became an NZQA Registered and Accredited Private Training Establishment to provide its students with nationally recognised qualifications. This new mainstream status did not detract from the organisation’s commitment to Maori education, and the recognised qualifications included Maori Arts and Crafts in the form of Raranga, Whakairo and Te Reo Maori. The focus was still on advancing Maori educational achievement.
In 1999, 20 years on from its inception, Aronui began offering tertiary level programmes targeted at Maori and others. The main focus of this new provision was to assist with the acquisition of skills and qualifications for the changing workforce, as well as the retraining of unemployed.
Currently, Aronui is kicking off new programmes e.g in Horticulture Level 4, Computing, Multimedia, Business and Information Technology, Hairdressing, Carpentry, Maori Health and Raranga.
Aronui extends beyond the borders of its head office and sites in Papakura, Auckland. It reaches the very heart of whānau, hapū, iwi, and marae through strong engagements with the communities it serves.
